The EDQM will host a live webinar on 3 March 2026 (10:00 to 12:00, CET) to present its new assessment approach for classifying medicines as prescription or non‑prescription, as developed by the Committee of Experts on the Classification of Medicines as Regards their Supply (CD‑P‑PH/PHO). This event offers a unique opportunity for stakeholders to gain first‑hand insight into a rapidly evolving area of public health regulation.
This free event is designed for health authorities, policy makers, the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacists, doctors, prescribers, patients and academics interested in medicines regulation.
The classification of medicines plays a central role in patient safety, accessibility of treatments and the management of healthcare expenditure. Yet, supply conditions continue to differ widely across countries, reflecting varying interpretations of classification criteria and a lack of harmonisation in additional criteria. Against this backdrop, the CD‑P‑PH/PHO has issued new guidelines that introduce a structured two‑stage assessment to support decision making on prescription status.
During the webinar, EDQM experts will outline the rationale behind the CD‑P‑PH/PHO’s recommendations and guide participants through the new assessment model. The programme also features contributions from Portugal and the United Kingdom, offering concrete illustrations of how classification and reclassification processes are applied at national level.
The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session, giving attendees the chance to exchange directly with experts.
Places are limited, so register now.
Each registered participant will receive the presentation slides and a link to the recording for future reference.
