We are delighted to announce the publication of the French translation of the 22nd edition of the Guide to the preparation, use and quality assurance of blood components (Blood Guide), a key reference document in the field of blood transfusion and quality management.
This translation marks a significant step in achieving the strategic objective of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) of expanding its global outreach and fostering equitable access to high-quality healthcare. The Blood Guide itself is the successful product of extensive international collaboration, bringing together experts from Council of Europe member states and observers and reflecting a shared commitment to quality, safety and ethical practices in blood transfusion services. By making the Blood Guide available in French, we aim to empower French-speaking professionals, institutions and regulators – particularly in Europe, Africa and other regions where French is widely spoken – with authoritative guidance on the preparation, testing and use of blood components.
The EDQM has long championed international co-operation in the field of medicines and healthcare, supporting public health in Europe and beyond. This includes active engagement with African countries through capacity-building initiatives, technical assistance and collaborative projects aimed at strengthening regulatory systems and improving access to safe medicines.
