From 19 to 21 September, the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) organised an international conference entitled “Collaboration, Innovation and Scientific Excellence: the European Pharmacopoeia 11th Edition”.

This event, marking the launch of the 11th Edition of the European Pharmacopoeia, took place in Strasbourg in hybrid format, and brought together almost 300 participants from all over the world, including representatives of European institutions, the World Health Organization, national competent authorities, national pharmacopoeia authorities, industry and academia.

Two plenary sessions, eight featured sessions, four open debates, twenty roundtables and two training sessions took place during these three days. Discussions and exchanges covered a large number of topics, including:

  • the concepts of flexibility,
  • challenges related to the control of impurities,
  • microbiological and viral safety,
  • cell and gene therapies,
  • the P4 procedure,
  • alternatives to animal testing,
  • herbal medicines,
  • international harmonisation.
