The donation of bone marrow can help make life better for people with bone marrow disease, including leukaemia (a type of blood cancer). But before a person receives a transplant, compatible bone marrow must be found. Therefore, the more registered donors there are, the greater the chance of finding a match with a patient.
Everyone has a role to play in helping others:
- 1 donor of organs can save up to 8 patients
- 1 donor of tissue and cells can save or improve the lives of up to 100 patients
Those who are interested in becoming donors should look for information on registering as a donor in their country and inform their family about their decision.
