The EDQM is proud to be hosting the 11th International Meeting of World Pharmacopoeias (IMWP) in February 2020 in Strasbourg, France. The IMWP was launched in 2012 by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a means of bringing together the pharmacopoeias of the world — national, regional and international — to discuss international co-operation and convergence/harmonisation and encourage the exchange of information between the different pharmacopoeias.
Since then, the IMWP has taken place on a regular basis, co-organised by WHO and a rotating host pharmacopoeia. The best-known outcome of the IMWP to date are the “Good Pharmacopoeial Practices” (GPhP) guidelines, a document describing harmonised approaches and policies for the development of pharmacopoeial texts, designed to foster convergence/prospective harmonisation and work sharing between pharmacopoeias at global level.
The aim of the Meet the World Pharmacopoeias Symposium, which will follow the February 2020 IMWP meeting, is to update stakeholders on the achievements and current work programme of the IMWP, giving pharmacopoeia representatives and stakeholders a unique opportunity to meet, share their experience and exchange views on pharmacopoeial co-operation and convergence/harmonisation.
The one-day symposium will include background information on the IMWP and will explain the scope and content of the GPhP. The speakers’ panel will bring together representatives of pharmacopoeias and stakeholders from around the world to present and discuss opportunities and challenges surrounding international co-operation and the harmonisation of pharmacopoeial texts.
Participants will be given the opportunity to meet pharmacopoeial representatives from the different regions of the world, to ask questions directly and to network and share views and opinions with their peers.
Who should attend?
This symposium is of interest to professionals from the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies.
