In June 2021, the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) Commission decided to undertake the replacement of the rabbit pyrogen test (RPT) in the Ph. Eur. within approximately five years. This decision affects several Ph. Eur. texts in a wide range of fields.
In light of these developments, a three-day hybrid event focusing on the future of pyrogenicity testing has been organised in collaboration with the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA).
Topics will include an in-depth presentation of the Ph. Eur. strategy for phasing out the RPT, the use of the monocyte activation test (MAT), the viewpoints of regulators and industry representatives, and perspectives from outside Europe on animal-free pyrogenicity testing. The event will also feature a bonus training session on the MAT.
