World Blood Donor Day, Celebrating the gift of blood

14 June

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on 14th June every year. It is jointly coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and the International Federation of Blood Donor Organisations (IFODS). These partners join together in a global event to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and the importance of regular voluntary blood donation.

In 2012, the theme for World Blood Donor Day is, "Every blood donor is a hero”. Every one of us can become a hero by giving blood.

A Global Event

Every year, a different country hosts World Blood Donor Day. The global event for 2012 will be held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, hosted by the Korean Red Cross and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Republic of Korea.
