As part of its mandate to contribute to strengthening consumer health protection in Europe, the EDQM carries out work on the quality and safe use of cosmetics and food contact materials.
Its Committee on Consumer Health Protection (CD-P-SC) manages the work programme and is supported by two groups of experts who examine health-related matters and prepare reports and recommendations concerning regulatory approaches: the Committee of Experts on Food Contact Materials (P-SC-EMB) and the Committee of Experts on Cosmetic Products (P-SC-COS).
The Terms of reference for their work have been established by the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers and can be found here: links with titles of Terms of Reference.
The CD-P-SC and its subordinate bodies are composed of representatives of the State Parties to the Convention on the elaboration of a European Pharmacopoeia with the expertise to take responsibility for the implementation of national consumer health protection policies and programmes. They co-operate closely with equivalent bodies in other international institutions, in particular the European Commission and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
