(20/01/10) The EDQM is organising a regional training on ‘Best practices to combat counterfeit medicines and to protect public health'. The training will be hosted and co-organised with the Portuguese National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (Autoridade Nacional do Medicamento e Produtos de Saúde, INFARMED) on 21 and 22 January 2010. (13/01/10) A workshop on ‘Medicines on the Web: Risks and benefits' was organised by the Council of Europe, EDQM and the Criminal Law Division, at the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) meeting held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on 15-18 November 2009. It dealt with the different means of protecting the health of Internet users from counterfeit medicines and other illegally supplied pharmaceuticals and healthcare products on the Internet. Means to do this included: empowerment of internet users, establishment of best practices and regulatory policies, and, where necessary, legal instruments for combating counterfeiting of medicinal products and similar crimes threatening public health.
(09/11/09) This new joint Council of Europe/United Nations publication was presented at a special launching event in the United Nations headquarters in New York on 13 October 2009 on the occasion of the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. This event was organised by the Council of Europe and the United Nations and co-sponsored by Slovenia, as the country holding the current Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and Spain, as the country previously holding the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and the world leader regarding organ donation and organ transplantation. (01/09/09) The idea behind this day, conceived by the Council of Europe, is to help a different member state each year to encourage debate on these social questions and in this way help organ donation and transplantation to progress. The European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation is an important initiative of the Council of Europe, hosted every year by a different member state. This year it will take place in Berlin, Germany. More information....
(03/06/09) The Council of Europe has been working actively for several years now with its partners at international level to thank those who, through their generosity, save many lives every day, and to raise the general public's awareness of the importance of blood donations.
Together, let us support the initiative of the ‘Etablissement Français du Sang d'Alsace' (www.efs-alsace.fr) and the actions of the German Red Cross (DRK) responsible for blood transfusion issues in Germany (www.blutspende.de). Come and discover what blood donation is all about and learn of the activities of the Council of Europe in this field!
